Bpr/Kak/Tbl, September 09 2023: A Joint Action Committee against the brutal killing of Soibam Nanao Singh by 26 Sector Assam Rifles has been formed.

The JAC was formed during a public meeting held today at Salungpham Maning Leikai Pukhri Achouba Mapal condemning the death of Soibam Nanao Singh who was killed by stray bullets fired by the Assam Rifles in yesterday's scuffle at Pallel.

The attendees of the meeting strongly denounced the brutality of the Assam Rifles towards the civilians and many resolutions were taken in connection with the death of Nanao.

A 14-member executive team was selected unanimously by the gathering.

Addressing media persons, JAC Convenor Keisham Rana read out the charter of demands raised in today's meeting which are as follows
- Initiate a Judicial Enquiry
- Register an FIR against 26 Sector Assam Rifles
- Withdraw Assam Rifles from Manipur
- State Home Minister should resign immediately.

The Convenor further informed that the dead body of Soibam Nanao Singh will not be claimed unless the above demands are fulfilled.

Later, the public took out a rally till the Deputy Commissioner Thoubal Office located at Thoubal Athokpam to submit a memorandum to DC enumerating the above demands.

A sit-in protest was also staged at Wangjing- Lamding Keithel.

The protestors used placards which read 'Stop Killing Civilians', 'Go Back Assam Rifles', 'We are against the killing of civilians', 'Save Manipur from Narco terrorists', etc.

and similar slogans were chanted.

It may be noted that the JAC members met Thoubal DC Ahanthem Subhash and submitted a memorandum copy to the Chief Minister through the DC.

A copy of the memorandum was submitted to Heirok AC MLA Dr Thokchom Radheshyam and Wangjing Tentha AC MLA Paonam Brojen through their respective PROs.

Meanwhile, a sit-in protest was staged today by the Meira Paibis and locals denouncing the killing of Yengkhom Jiten (43 yrs) of Kakching Chumnang Leikai.

Yengkhom Jiten was hit by the stray bullets fired by the Assam Rifles in yesterday's scuffle at Palled and later succumbed to his injuries.

Speaking in connection with the protest, Meira Paibi president Naorem Ibemu strongly condemned the atrocities meted out by Assam Rifles by firing upon the civilians.

She further raised the question whether the Assam Rifles is here to resolve the crisis or to attack Meitei civilians.

The Meira Paibi president also expressed dismay over the Government's silence on the sufferings of the people.

Reacting strongly against the Pallel where two civilians were killed by the stray bullets fired by the Assam Rifles, locals of Kakching Lamkhai gathered and raised many slogans.

Meanwhile, four village volunteers were dragged out of sleep and apprehended by Assam Rifles on the charge that they possessed arms early morning today.

However, they have been handed over to Palled Police station today evening after Kakching MLA and Kakching SP held a talk with the Assam Rifles.

Denouncing the Pallel incident where two civilians were killed and many were left injured, protest demonstrations were carried out at Moirang today.

Meira Paibis of 29 localities of Moirang gathered at Moirang Lamkhai today evening and raised many slogans and burnt effigies of Assam Rifles.

The protest was organised by Moirang Apunba Meira Paibi Ima Lup (MAMPIL) .

Participating in the protest, MAMPIL president K Padamo said that it is unfortunate that the Assam Rifles, which should be a neutral entity, used excessive force against the Meitei civilians.

At such a crucial juncture, the silence of the Central and State Government has added more woes to the suffering people who are left on their own to defend themselves, she lamented.

In view of the above, she demanded that the Assam Rifles should be withdrawn from the State, failing which intense agitation will be carried out in association with the masses.

The womenfolk chanted slogans 'Withdraw Assam Rifles', 'No compromise on Manipur's integrity', 'Assam Rifles Murdabad' etc.

In line with the protest held in different places, a sit-in protest was staged at Ningthoukhong Keithel today organised by Ningthoukhong Keithel Phambi Ima Lup and Ningthoukhong Apunba Lup and shouted slogans.
