Imphal, September 09 2023:
Kuki militants once again attacked Kadangband Part I in Imphal West using heavy weapons including bombs last night.
Meanwhile, Kadangband Part-I villagers have condemned the attack in the strongest terms.
They decried that both Assam Rifles and Kangpokpi police have failed to rein in the Kuki militants who have made the surrounding areas of Kadangband their strongholds.
A bomb fired by Kuki militants from near the Geljang post of 22 Assam Rifles toward Kadangband Part-I at around 11.40 pm yesterday landed and exploded very close to a Manipur Rifles camp who have been guarding the village, said one village volunteer.
As the Kuki militants fired more bombs toward the Meitei village, the village volunteers opened some rounds of fire in the direction of the Kuki militants.
Kadangband Part-I ex-Pradhan N Bobby said they were told by one officer of 22 AR stationed at Geljang that the loud explosions were created by bombs being defused.
The ex-Pradhan decried that the Kuki militants are given free hands while Meitei village volunteers are prohibited from opening fire.
Although there is an Assam Rifles post in Geljang area, the troops are unable to control the movement of Kuki militants in the area, Bobby said.
He also questioned the silence of the Superintendent of Police, Kangpokpi district.
Seeking the State Government's attention into the matter, the ex-Pradhan urged 22 Assam Rifles not to take sides of the Kukis but maintain neutrality.
