Imphal, September 09 2023:
Demanding that Meitei MLAs should sign a statement seeking an early session of Manipur Legislative Assembly to discuss the prevailing crisis and bring a lasting solution, scores of Youths of Manipur (YoM) members have started a campaign of visiting MLAs.
YoM kicked off their campaign with many of its members visiting the residence of MLA Lourembam Rameshwar at Kyamgei.
As the MLA was not present at his home, the members had a phone conversation with the Legislator who was also positive of their view and assured all support.
The members, despite the assurance, remained at the courtyard of the MLA insisting that they will leave the place only with a written statement of the MLA himself.
The written statement of assurance was given late in the evening, said YoM.
Speaking on the sidelines, one member of YoM expressed regret that no-one seems to care while the State continues to burn for more than four months.
Neither the Chief Minister nor the MLAs have done enough to douse the fire engulfing the State.
They have failed to deliver the expectations people had of them, he said while adding that youths are fed up with their inaction.
Maintaining that they will leave the place only after receiving the written statement from the MLA, he also called upon other Meitei MLAs to be ready with written statements supporting an early Assembly session.
He also announced that they will be visiting all the Meitei MLAs in a peaceful manner.
Later late in the evening, members of the YoM visited the residence of Power Minister Thongam Biswajit at Thongju.
As the Minister was out, YoM members stayed put at his residence late into the evening.
