Bishnupur, September 09 2023:
Expressing dissatisfaction over alleged indifferent attitude of the state government towards the VDF personnel for the last 15 years of its existence, Bishnupur District VDF Welfare Association has pointed out the need for the government to acknowledge the role of VDF during the present ethnic violence in the state and the problems and issues being faced while performing their duties.
Addressing media persons at Bishnupur on Saturday, association president L Deban Singh said that the VDF having members from all the 35 communities has been discharging duties and helping the government and the public for the last 15 years.
At present VDF personnel are guarding Bishnupur district by setting up total of 72 bunkers in Imphal Low Level canal and Moirang Low Level canal.
However, the VDF personnel are facing huge problems due to lack of proper places to eat and sleep, which worsen during rains.
He further informed that a few days back some Kukis arrived at Torbung and Kangvai and took away properties from the abandoned Meitei houses.
On being intervened by the central forces deployed in Waikjurok,-the Kukis said that the house belongs to them and it was abandoned during the crisis.
Such incidents have occurred as the central forces are unaware of the actual jurisdictions of the Meiteis and the Kuki and this has further fuelled the tension among the Meiteis.
These matters should be solved through intervention of the state authorities concerned.
The press conference was also attended by Bishnupur District VDF Welfare Association executive members Md Arif Khan and Md Ajijur Rahman.
