Talui Kharar Long Heritage Home inaugurated

Ningtharla Vashum, a 100 year old, inaugurated the newly constructed Talui Kharar Long Heritage Home cum Multipurpose Recreational Hall by cutting ribbon in the presence of village leaders and women leaders at Talui village in Ukhrul district.
The programme began with a special prayer for senior citizens of Talui village by Rev Mingyao, Pastor of Talui.
The heritage home is a single storey building having six rooms to be utilized as a multi purpose hall for recreation and heritage home for collection and preservation of Talui village artifacts.

It is worth mentioning that the Talui Kharar Long has started collecting the Tangkhul traditional items such as clothes, agricultural equipment, weapons etc used by the forefathers for display and preservation.
Dr Nelson Vashum while speaking at the inaugural programme said that the main objective of establishing a multi purpose recreation hall in the village is to create a friendly atmosphere and build a fellowship for the aged community of the village .
The seniors of the Talui village can come together to create a conducive environment to avert loneliness or isolation while the youngsters can interact with the elders to learn more about the traditional customs and cultures or listen to folklore by visiting the place at their convenient time, he added.
Speaking on the sidelines, the 100 year old Ningtharla Vashum narrated her life story.
She said, 'There are more than ten childhood friends of mine, mostly women living in the village and are all active and strong and are a blessing for the village' .
She attributed her physical well-being and long life to following a simple diet regime consisting mostly of organic vegetables.
According to reports, Khararlong was founded in 1973 and it has over 400 members who have crossed 60 years and above.
It was also informed the building was constructed from the subscription and financial assistance extended by well wishers to realise the dream for having a recreational hall.
A television set was also installed in the hall today.
As a part of the programme, a grand feast was also organised for the attendees.
