Public meeting discusses agricultural issues, attacks on farmers

Bishnupur, July 11 2023: A public meeting was convened at Khullakpat under Borayangbi Gram Panchayat to discuss the pertinent question of starting agricultural activities and the numerous instances of attack on farmers in foothill areas by Kuki militants.

Notable personalities present at the meeting include S Premchandra Meitei, MLA Kumbi AC; P Baleshore Singh, Pradhan Wangoo Terakhong GP; Romesh, Pradhan Nominee Borayangbi GP and representatives of local meira paibi associations, club members and other important local leaders.

An unnamed meira paibi representative stated that the public meeting was convened to discuss the shortage of water for agriculture and ways to carry out agricultural activities while staying safe from attacks perpetrated by Kuki militants.

She also lauded the State Government's move to provide State security cover to farmers in various peripheral regions and MLA S Premchandra's assurance to provide water pumps and other ways to meet the water shortage.

Speaking at the meeting, MLA S Premchandra stated that Kumbi AC is one of the regions worst-hit by the conflict.

He assured that the Government has made all preparations to provide security to the farmers and agricultural fields in the foothill regions.

He also appealed to the farmers to refrain from cultivating in remote fields that are more vulnerable than most in order to avoid any further casualties.
