5th Junior Girls' National Boxing Championship gets underway

Imphal, October 28 2022:
The 5th Junior Girls' National Boxing Championship 2022 got underway at Boxing Arena, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex here on Friday.
Youth Affairs & Sports minister K Govindas Singh attended the opening event as chief guest.
Also present were Narender Kumar Nirwan, vice-president Boxing Federation of India, MLA Th Arunkumar and MLA Chinlunthang as president and guests of honour respectively.
During his speech, minister K Govindas Singh thanked Anurag Singh, Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, for accepting the state government's proposal for the procurement of new and advanced sports equipment.
"We will soon have up-to-date sports equipment for our sportspersons and with such an initiative we are hoping to see more Olympians and champions from the state, " the YAS mister added.
The opening day's competition saw Manipur's Anjali Devi Soibam win an RSC (referee stops contest) verdict against Lalthakimi of Mizoram in their junior girls' 5O-52kg bout.
245 boxers across 28 states are competing in the six-day national boxing event which will conclude on November 2 .
