Thoubal, October 28 2022:
Tipaimukh AC MLA Ngursanglur Sanate has categorically asserted that alienating oneself from the rituals and traditions of ancestors in the name of converting to another religion will lead to the disappearance of a community.
The MLA was speaking at the pre-harvest festival of Chothe community, "Chothe Shabuhong Rien" held at Purum Khullen (Chothe Hupi village) under Chandel district today.
Speaking at the festival organised by Chothe Hupi (Purum Khullen), Ngursanglur Sanate alleged that after the arrival of Christianity in the State, many indigenous communities deserted their native belief system and adopted the new religion.

"As a result of this, the younger generation of these communities are not aware of the traditions and belief system followed by their forefathers from time immemorial.
This in turn, could lead to the eventual disappearance of the community as a whole", he claimed.
In this regard, the MLA suggested that despite adopting a new religion, people should continue to observe their ancestral cultural and traditional customs & rituals.
He stated that in order to foster the bonds of love and harmony among the various communities in the State, it is necessary to ensure that there is open & clear communication between these communities.
"In order to ensure this, people of different communities must know Manipuri language.
Many people from remote hill areas lack the knowledge of Manipuri language and as such they face many inconveniences and are disadvantaged in many aspects", said the MLA while urging all the intending candidates in Tipaimukh AC for the upcoming ADC election to become fluent in Manipuri language.
Ansai Thaokung, chief of Purum Khullen; Seiminthang Lenthang, CEO, ADC Chandel and representatives from various Chothe villages also took part in the festival.
