Minister Ranjan calls for mass awareness on cervical cancer

Health minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh on Friday joined an online sensitisation and awareness programme for paramedics, an initiative for Cervical Cancer Free NER; organised by The Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI) .
The webinar was attended by the health minister as chief guest and Mizoram National Health Mission SMD Dr Eric Zamawia as guest of honour.
The event was joined by experienced medical specialists and gynaecologists of the country who shared their knowledge and experiences on the topic and discussed the prevailing situation of cervical cancer in the north eastern states in particular.
It may be mentioned that North Eastern states have the highest cases of cervical cancer in the country according to the national survey.
In his address, Dr Ranjan said that mass awareness and preventive measures need to be taken up in order to control cervical cancer particularly in north eastern states.
"Since the topographical feature of this region does not provide easy accessibility to the hilly terrains, we need more manpower and proper training for the purpose.
We have been using Tele Medicines as an alternative in these areas.
However, such virtual platforms will really help achieve the objective," he added.
The minister also mentioned that the state government has initiated various schemes and missions in the health sector including Chief Minister's Health For All and CMHT.
