TBSFA FC, FC Imphal enter 4th Sangai Trophy semis

Imphal, June 12 2022: TBSFA FC and FC Imphal have advanced to the semi-finals of the 4th Sangai Trophy Veteran Football Championship being organised by the United Veteran Football Association, Manipur at Artificial Turf Ground, Lamlong Thongkhong.

In the first quarter final match, Group A winners ATVFA, Thangmeiband and TBSFA-FC, Taobungkhok played out a 2-2 draw in the regulation time before the Taobungkhok side emerged 2-1 victorious in the tie break (4-3 final reading) .

It was a neck and neck affair as the two TBSFA FC fought back twice to remain in contention for the last four stage of the competition after finishing group C runners up in the league stage.

Khupneingam opened the scoring for ATVFA two minutes into the game only to be equalised by Md Chaoba in the 10th minute of the match.

After settling a 1-1 first half draw, Khupneingam scored yet again in the 45th minute to help ATVFA regain the lead but in an interesting turn Md Chaoba came to the rescue again by scoring the equaliser in the 63rd minute.

And as the two sides remained locked at 2-2 till the end of the regulation time, the game was decided via tiebreaker where in Ranjit and Premjit found the target for the Taobungkhok team and only Debananda scored from the spot for the Thangmeiband side.

Meanwhile the second quarter final match between Group B winners, FC Imphal and Group D runners up UVSA turned out to be a lopsided affair as FC Imphal romped to a 4-1 win.

FC Imphal were in control of the game from the word go but could enjoy a 1-0 slender first half lead as only Md Bidyashor was able to convert a chance in the 8th minute.

However, FC Imphal further intensified their campaign after the restart and banged in three goals via M Bishworjit (51'), M Kiran (55') and S Somananda (69') to make it 4-0 .

W Prabin of UVSA FC managed to score a consolation goal during the stoppage time (70+4') .
