Polo: AR, MPSC-C win in Governor's Cup

Assam Rifles Polo Team and Manipur Police Sports Club-C emerged the victors on the second day of the 30th Governor's Cup Polo Tournament 2023.Assam Rifles pulled off a thrilling 7-6 win over Thangmeiband Youth Polo Club at Mapal Kangjeibung on Monday.
The teams tied 1-1 in the first chukker as Chandrakumar put the AR team ahead before Th Nongpoknganba drew level for the Thangmeiband side.
In the second chukker, the AR riders ground out a 3-2 lead after Riyakat Ali and Chandrakumar (his second goal) converted for their team as Alex scored for Thangmeiband.
After falling behind, Thangmeiband showed their mettle in the third chukker and overturned the score-line with a pair of goals from S Saolin and one each from Nongpoknganba and S Bonbon, while AR could only add one goal through Riyakat.
AR restored parity in the fourth chukker after Riyakat collected his third goal and Pramananda struck in their sixth goal.
After their strong showing in the third chukker, the Thangmeiband side, however, failed to replicate their form in the fourth chukker as a 6-6 deadlock stretched the game to a fifth chukker.
In the decider, AR rose to the contest courtesy of Premananda's second goal that wrapped up their thrilling win.
Later in the day, MPSC-C got the better of Chingkheihunba Polo Club 9-6 .
The police riders jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the opening chukker that saw S Abungcha Singh hammer a double and M Jawan get their third, while CPC scored through O Rozer Singh.
In the next chukker, MPSC-C pumped in three more goals with S Bimol, Viking Salam and S Abungcha all getting on the scoresheet.
CPC, meanwhile, managed to score just one goal through L Abinash Singh.
The third chukker witnessed another 3-1 as MPSC overpowered their opponents with a goal each from Abungcha (his fourth goal), Viking (his second) and Roshan, while CPC got their third goal through Binash.
CPC put up a brave fight in the fourth chukker to score three goals through Rozer (2) and Kaoba.
Despite failing to score in that chukker, MP-SC-C still managed to emerge dominant 9-6 winners.
