Sekmai Makha Leikai Sports Pavilion inaugurated

With the goal of producing more talented sports persons from the region, Awang Sekmai Scheduled Caste Development Committee (ASSCDC) inaugurated the Sekmai Makha Leikai Sports Pavilion and handed over the same to the public this morning.
The sports pavilion which cost roughly Rs 8.5 lakh was reportedly constructed without any Government aid.
During the function, Khwairakpam Surjamani, president, ASSCDC, cut the ceremonial ribbon and inaugurated the sports pavilion.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Khwairakpam Ishwarchandra, secretary, ASSCDC; Yumlembam Sharat, vice president, ASSCDC; Dr Yaiskul Khwairakpam, former president, Patriotic Writers Forum Manipur; Khwairakpam Devendra, former MLA, Sekmai Assembly Constituency; Khwairakpam Anil, treasurer, ASSCDC; assistant secretaries of ASSCDC Khwairakpam Nanao and Maharabam Surendrajit and ASSCDC senior member Khwairakpam Bormani among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Khwairakpam Surjamani stated that in the past similar sports pavilions had been constructed at four different sites in Awang Sekmai.
Sekmai Makha Leikai Sports Pavilion marks the fifth such pavilion handed over to the people, he maintained.
In this regard, he stated that ASSCDC will continue to build such sports pavilions for the welfare of sports persons in the region and the public as well and sought the support of the people in their endeavours.
Addressing the gathering, Khwairakpam Ishwarchandra stated that the sports pavilion was built for the people to hamper the influence of drugs on the youth and instead divert their attention on sports and maintaining good health.
He further shared that the Committee will launch a tree plantation drive in the near future in order to address the problem of scarcity of water prevalent in the State.
He urged the public to inculcate the habit of planting trees instead of cutting them down.
Former MLA Khwairakpam Devendra expressed pride at the achievements and contributions of ASSCDC which include construction of Kaojengleima Sports Pavilion, Khunou Sports Pavilion, Kangjeibung Sports Pavilion and Kaojengleima Mamang Leikai Sports Pavilion.
Aside from this, the Committee has renovated many Awang Sekmaigi IV Road without any financial aid from the Government, he alleged.
Lastly, Dr Yaiskul Khwairakpam addressed the gathering and asserted that a State that doesn't not have any talented sports persons cannot achieve development.
He opined that more playing fields/grounds must be constructed for the upliftment of sports persons.
He termed ASSCDC's initiative of building sports initiative for sports persons a great blessing for them.
