Haraorou Committee demands action

Imphal, February 27 2023: Taking serious note of the alleged fund misappropriation in PWD in connection with construction of a culvert at Haraorou-Tangkham under Panchayat fund, Haraorou Village Development Committee has appealed to the state government to investigate into the matter and take up appropriate legal actions against those involved in the scam.

Interacting with the media at the culvert site, committee secretary Nongthombam Phunindro said that they came to know about the scam after opposition member Th Lokeshwar brought up the issue in the state assembly session on Saturday.

He said that the committee is in possession of documents related to misappropriation Rs 1.10 crore provided for construction of the two culverts including the Haraorou-Tangkham culvert from PWD.

Since the works minister had assured the House to look into the allegation and take up legal action, he demanded the government swift action and blacklisting of the contractor as well as initiating legal action against the SO and engineers involved before the assembly session ends.

Former ward member Ng Bhimo of Tangkham Awang Leikai said that former ZP member late Thangjam Angoubi constructed the culvert in 2019-20 under the state finance commission and there are documentary evidences.
