Imphal, February 27 2023:
The State Government has been re-portedly planning to upgrade the historic Tongjei Maril (Old Cachar Road) to the status of a National Highway.
Responding to a question raised by MLA Janghem-lung Panmei in the State Assembly today, Works Minister Govindas Kon-thoujam informed the House that Tongjei Maril is one of the seven roads which have been approved in principle for upgradation to the status of National Highway.
Following the break down of Irang Bridge, Tongjei Maril road was used as a bypass of NH 37 .
As a result, a large number of heavy vehicles plied on the road on daily basis and it severely damaged the road.
PWD prepared a DPR of Rs 81.84 crore for construction of Tongjei Maril road and the same was submitted to the Centre, Govindas said.
NHIDCL is likely to construct the road, he added.
Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan has stated that the Manipur State Illness Assistance Fund (MSIAF) had been abolished following the launch of CMHT.
Responding to a query raised by Congress MLA Okram Surjakumar in the State Assembly today, Dr Sapam Ranjan said that 1929 applications amounting to around Rs 29 crore which were received before the abolition of MSIAF are still pending.
The State Government has initiated due process to set up a screening committee in order to release the pending amount, he said.
Replying to another query raised by K Ranjit, PHE Minister L Susindro said that the residents of Imphal require around 133.52 million litres of water in a day.
Water drawn from Maphou Dam through Chingkhei Ching is being supplied to the people at the rate of 45 MLD, Susindro said.
He said that people would not face any shortage of water including residents of those areas where potable water was supplied from Singda water supply scheme and other smaller water supply schemes.
Claiming that 75 per cent of the total households of Manipur have now access to tap water under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the PHE Minister said that tap water should be made available 24 hours a day as per the guidelines of Jal Jeevan Mission but it cannot be implemented on ground due to scarcity of water at sources.
