Shumang Leela Festival : 'Iyadagi Icha' searches for life's meaning and better society

The ninth day of the Nupa (male) Shumang Leela category of the ongoing 51st All Manipur Shumang Leela Festival 2022-23, which is being organised by Manipur State Kala Akademi at Th Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound, was marked by showcasing of the play, 'Iyadagi Icha' by Apunba Artistes' Association on Sunday afternoon.
In 'Iyadagi Icha', Pamel, who has grown up in an orphan home, prepares to sell his kidney after getting pummelled down by the harshness of life.
At the moment, the kind-hearted Dr Tomba comes across Pamel and brings him home.
He raises Pamel as his own son but his (Dr Tomba) daughter Urirei, a singer, is unable to trust Pamei, after growing in the present distrustful society.
Saddened by Urirei's attitude towards him, Pamel decides to leave.
However, Dr Tomba, who knows Pamel's true thought and heart, urges him to stay with Chaoba.
Subsequently, Urirei realises her wrongful assumption of Pamel and develops feelings of love towards Pamel.
At the end, Dr Tomba takes Pamel as his son-in law.
The play has been written by Dr Dhanabir Laishram and directed by Mohoriraj, who also played the role of 'Dr Tomba'.
The other male characters have been portrayed by Deepak (Chaoba), Aeroplane (Thokcha'o), Sagar (Pamel), Khekhe (Ingel) and Ithoi (Sana); while the female roles were played by Nilkamal (Kethabi), James (Urirei), Kishan (Watabi) and Basanta The backstage included Aadi (male voice), Niranjan (female voice), Vicky Raaj (Tabla), Amarjit (Guitar), Nikaljit (Flute), Basanta (Keyboard/Music Direction), Joy (Pad Drum) and lyricist Deepak.
