Sports pavilion constructed with crowdfunding

A sports pavilion constructed by Awang Sekmai Scheduled Caste Development Committee (ASSCDC) at Sekmai Makha Leikai at a cost of Rs 8.5 lakh without any government support was inaugurated and dedicated to the public on Monday.
Committee president Khwairakpam Surjamani inaugurated the pavilion in the presence of vice president Yumlembam Sarat, secretary Kh Ishwarchandra, Patriotic Writers' Forum former president Dr Yaiskul Khwairakpam, ex-MLA Kh Devendra, Awang Sekmai Maiba Purel Y Yaima and other club members.
Speaking on the occasion, Surjamani informed that the pavilion has been constructed through crowdfunding.
The committee had constructed four such pavilions in the past and it is the fifth pavilion, he said, adding that the committee will continue to work for players in the future too.
According to secretary Ishwarchandra, the pavilion has been constructed with the objective to encourage youth to take up sports as a career and to keep them away from drugs and substance abuse.
He also said that the committee will soon take up a tree plantation campaign to contribute in resolving water crisis that the state is facing while appealing to the public to cooperate by preventing deforestation and planting more trees.
Ex-MLA of Sekmai AC Kh Devendra appreciated the committee for its initiatives in constructing the five sports pavilions, organising annual sports meet for whole Awang Sekmai during Yaoshang festival, as well as repairing of several IV roads in the area without any support from the government Meanwhile, Dr Yaiskul Khwairakpam emphasised on the importance of sports in bringing a healthy society and hailed the committee for its initiatives.
He also encouraged youth to refrain from drugs and substance abuse, and focus towards sports in order to keep themselves ht and healthy.
