Imphal, February 27 2023:
MAHUD Minister Y Khemchand has called upon all Members of Manipur Legislative Assembly to collectively identify a site for construction of a permanent market shed for the street vendors of Khuman Lampak Dingku Road.
Raising a call attention motion on the demand of the Ima Panthoibi Street Vendors Union to construct a permanent market shed, MLA Th Arunkumar sought attention of the Government to construct a permanent market shed at the Government plot located just beside the office of the Apex Co-operative Society, opposite to Khuman Lampak ISBT.
Claiming that the Khuman Lampak Dingku Road is frequented by many VIPs who come from outside the State, Th Arunkumar remarked that the temporary structures built along either side of the road give a very shabby picture.
Moreover, these structures are causing traffic problems, he added.
Responding to the call attention motion, Y Khemchand said that the demand for a permanent market shed is legitimate.
Earlier 1475 street vendors were identified at Khwairamband Keithel in the course of a three-month long survey.
After accommodation of these street vendors following concerted efforts of the Government, an equal number of street vendors sprung up, Khemchand said.
When the State Government initiated a process of constructing a tribal hostel at the plot located beside the Apex Co-operative Society, the society obtained an injunction from Court, the MAHUD Minister said.
In addition, another case is pending at civil Court, he said.
He then made a proposal to all Members of the House to identify a suitable site for construction of a permanent market shed for the street vendors of Khuman
Lampak Dingku Road.
