Imphal, October 09 2022:
Not satisfied with the execution of road repairing work along Rengpang to Mongjaron Khullen stretch under PMGSY Phase-II in Noney district, RD & PR Minister Yumnam Khemchand has said that legal actions will be taken up against the contractor who misappropriated Government fund.
The Minister inspected the progress of road repairing work taken up along Rengpang to Mongjaron Khullen (15km), Soukhap-thang to Nungnang (22km) and certain lengths of road stretch at Khoupum along Imphal-Jiribam Road at Nungba Block, yesterday.
Y Khemchand was accompanied by Additional Chief Secretary MH Khan, Rural Engineering Department Chief Engineer Pantishing Thaimei, Additional Chief Engineer K Rajen and several other officials during the inspection tour.
Speaking to media persons, the Minister stated that over Rs 7 crore has been withdrawn for repairing the 15 km Rengpang to Mongjaron Khullen stretch under PMGSY Phase-II by the contractor in 2019 .
Saying that the road stretch, however, is in very bad shape with no sight of repairing at all, the Minister maintained that the Chief Engineer of Rural Engineering Department has been directed to convene a meeting to take up legal action against the contractor who misappropriated public funds.
He further asserted that the contractor who took out money from the Government without executing works will be arrested under the Money Laundering Act and put behind bars.
Saying that he took out the inspection tour as many complaints were lodged by those who frequent the road stretch, Khemchand maintained that he will inspect the road stretch again after 15 days.
"If there is no progress within 15 days then legal actions will be initiated against the contractor," he said and added that the contractor must utilise the public fund properly.
