New eco-tourism park inaugurated in Hiyanglam AC

Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam and Hiyanglam MLA Dr Radheshyam Yumnam inaugurated the first ever eco-tourism park of Hiyanglam assembly constituency at Heitroipokpi, Tejpur on Sunday.
The park has been constructed under a joint project of the MLA local area development fund and the state government.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Dr Radheshyam informed that the location was chosen for development of the park keeping in view of the natural beauty of the surrounding area.
Though development of some components of the park such as water bodies and beautification works are still underway, trees planted at the time of the park's concept have fully grown, the MLA said, adding that in view of the pending works he had requested the tourism department to complete the remaining components.
He urged the local people to take the responsibility of maintenance and upkeep of the park and stressed that the visitors put waste materials in waste bins so as to keep the park neat and clean for attracting more visitors.
Meanwhile, MLA Karam Shyam said that the government is taking up an initiative to develop at least one eco-tourism park in every constituency.
These parks will be developed at a cost of Rs 50 lakh each, out of which Rs 20 lakh will be allocated from the MLA local area development fund and the remaining Rs 30 lakh will be borne by the tourism department.
Hiyanglam is the first constituency to inaugurate such a park.
The MLA said that he feels the natural beauty of the locality will attract visitors to the park.
Maintaining that artificial beauty can never be comparable with natural beauty, he called for developing natural beauty and taking opportunities from them.
He pointed out that tourism-parks could help in enhancing the state's socio-economy and the role of the public, especially the youth, is crucial in order to attract more visitors.
He called for public support and contribution in making the park a popular tourist destination.
Waikhong ZP member Chongtham Indrajit and social workers Elangbam Ratan & Yumnam Shyamojit also attended the inauguration function.
