46th edition of Kha Manipur Drama Festival underway

The 67th foundation day of Langmeidong Dramatic Union and the 46th Kha Manipur Drama Festival 2022 jointly organised by Langmeidong Dramatic Union (LDU) and Manipur State Kala Akademi commenced from Sunday at the auditorium of the theatre group.
Langthabal MLA Karam Shy-am, Hiyanglam MLA Dr Radheshyam Yumnam and Waikhong ZP member Chongtham Indrajit attended the inaugural function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Karam Shyam called for honouring the contribution made by founders and past members of the theatre group and reminded that the theatre group could not be in its present status without their efforts.
He also urged the veterans to leave their legacy for the younger generation by teaching them valuable lessons to ensure success in their career.
MLA Shaym also commended the local people for their support in promoting the drama festival of the theatre group.
MLA Dr Radheshyam spoke on the roles and contribution made by founders, past mem bers, artistes and local people of Langmeidong in promoting the theatre group and expressed gratitude to them.
Floral tributes were paid to the portraits of deceased members of the union.
Different awards were also presented on the occasion.
A book written by the union's former chairman, artiste and playwright late Thounaojam Ngouba and a souvenir of the drama festival were also released.
Altogether 16 theatre groups are participating in the festival.
Langmeidong Dramatic Union's play 'Ningsida Ngankhisanu' was presented on the first day of the festival.
The play will be performed as part of the festival competition on October 10 again.
S Ratan kumar directed the play on the script of Kshetri Sanajaoba.
