Manipuri Poetry Day observed, 3 poets feted

Fiction and Poetry Club, Manipur in association with JN Manipur Dance Academy observed Manipuri Poetry Day at the auditorium of the Academy, here, on Sunday.
During the observance, 3 Manipuri poets, namely Moirangthem Rajendra of Tentha, Raghubir Thiyam of Yairipok and Khwairakpam Anandini of Porompat were honoured with presentation of a shawl and citation each.
A specific calendar concerning Manipuri Poetry Day along with the 20th poetry issue of Mapao was also released on the occasion.
Later, a poetry writing and recital competition was organised, followed by presentation of awards to the winners.
Speaking as the chief guest, Khangabok AC MLA Okram Surajakumar pointed out that although the policies of the state have been drafted carefully by experts, they are never enacted into an Act, 'but is rather pushed forward by private citizens instead.
He then mentioned that he had urged for providing a "place" for the literature and art and culture of Manipur in the Assembly, while assuring of taking up the suggestions put forward by the teachers concerned at a suitable platform.
The MLA further pointed out that the construction of Manipur Sahitya Kala Akademi building is yet to be completed, which after completion, could serve as a venue for holding different literary meets and programmes.
As such, he urged the government to complete the construction at the earliest.
Stating that the sign of a developed society is shown by its literature, Surajkumar said that the students are the backbone of the society, and so the participation of many students in the poetry competition is good for the future.
He then urged all to work hard to become exemplary personalities in the field of art and culture and literature.
Presided over by Fiction and Poetry Club Manipur president Dr Heisnam Budhichandra, the observance was also attended by LEIKOL president Ksh Subadani as guest of honour.
The afternoon session of the observance was attended by Manipur Sahitya Parishad president Longjam Joychandra as chief guest and JN Manipur Dance Academy director Pukhrambam Bilash as president; while the third session was attended by Salam Tomba and Yumlembam Ibomcha as presidium members.
