Mera Hou Chongba celebrated in Kangpokpi

Mera Hou Chongba festival, which has been a catalyst in cementing the bond of brotherhood between the hill and the valley people for millennia, was celebrated at Tuisenphai village in Kangpokpi district on Sunday.
IMOM, MAPI Council, UPF, IMSCO, HAGM and Tuisenphai village authority jointly organised the festival.
Attending the festival, Lamlai MLA Kh Ibomcha emphasised on the significance of Mera Hou Chongba and how it has been serving as a bridge between the hill and the valley people.
He called for standing against forces that have been trying to drive wedges in the brotherhood and not to believe in statement of just anybody without verifying the facts.
The government wants to resolve outstanding issues faced by the state and it needs public participation and understanding, he said.
Robin Shinglai said that Mera Hou Chongba is a festival that has been helping to strengthen unity among indigenous communities of the state.
It reminds of the blood brother hood between the hill and the valley people, strengthens the integrity of the state.
He called for ironing out differences and for working together to bring unity and integrity.
UPF president N Rupachandra, Tuiseiphai VA chairman Sh Nisosel, MAPI Council vice-president Thangjam Sadananda and several others also attended the festival, which saw gifts exchange among people of different communities.
