Solar-powered cold storages inaugurated

Solar-powered cold storages constructed by Malem Suitable Enterprises Private Limited at Kwasiphai and Khoijuman areas in Bishnupur district were inaugurated on Sunday.
The facilities each having capacity of stocking 5000 kg perishable agriculture produce have been installed at the residences of Ahongshangbam Gunamani Singh of Kwasiphai and W Pritam of Khoijuman.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Nachou Zilla Parishad member Th Dilip Meitei, People Resources Development Association secretary L Suranjoy Singh, Bishnupur Urban Thrift and Credit Cooperative Society CEO Sanjit Konthoujam and Malem Enterprises director Md Iquebal Ahmed as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
In his address, Th Dilip said that the cold storage units will facilitate the farmers of Khoijuman and Kwasiphai villages which are known for extensive farming and producing vegetables of various types throughout the year, to store their unsold goods for sale at their convenience and as per the market demand.
Meanwhile, L Suranjoy pointed out that goods stored in the cold storage units would be safe for consumption for at least three months and Iquebal Ahmed emphasised on the need to install such facilities at every vegetable producing areas.
He also elaborated on the advantages of solar-powered units compared to the conventional electric-powered facilities.
