Imphal, October 09 2022:
Mayang Imphal AC MLA Kongkham Robindro has said that saving Loktak Lake without the involvement of people who reside near the freshwater take will be difficult.
He also said that the Government alone would not be able to save Loktak Lake.
K Robindro is also a chairman of MANIDCO.
The 27th Loktak Day was celebrated today at Komlakhong Chingthi under Mayang Imphal Constituency, today.
Speaking as the president of the function, the MLA said that Komlakhong Chingthi, a village situated on the edge of Loktak Lake, is also emerging as a favourite tourist destination.
Saying that many people throng Komlakhong Chingthi every weekend to witness the beauty of the place, Robindro maintained that the Government will start developing the place as a proper tourist spot to attract more tourists.
He further stated that the Government is considering developing an eco-park from where the beauty of Loktak Lake could be seen.
Maintaining that a proposal has already been sent to declare Loktak Day as a State level event a few years back, he added that the process was delayed due to Covid pandemic.
"There would be no meaning of observing Loktak Day if no tangible action is taken up to protect the freshwater lake," he noted.
He further stated that Constituencies adjacent to Loktak Lake would be affected if demarcation process of the freshwater lake is initiated.
"I as a representative of the people will not allow demarcation of Loktak Lake as it will affect a large section of people," he added.
Fisheries Minister H Dingo, Kumbi AC MLA Sanasam Premchandra, LDA chairman Moirangthem Asnikumar and Editor of Sanaleibak daily Hemantakumar Ningomba also attended the programme.
Cultural items and Loktak Musical Concert were also held later.
