Imphal, November 03 2014:
North East leg of the Nation-wide campaign called All India Shiksha Sangharash Yatra (AISSY) which is aimed at ensuring education for all would be flagged off from DM College tomorrow.
Talking about the campaign at Manipur Press Club today, All India Forum for Right to Education (AIFRTE) executive member Surjit Thokchom said that Manipur is yet to enjoy many of the rights entitled to citizens of a democratic country even though it has been more than 60 years since India achieved independence.
Notably, AIFRTE is the principal agency which is organising the AISSY 2014 and the campaign would continue till December 4 .
Democratic rights of the people of Manipur are violated blatantly through imposition of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958.Likewise, students of the State are still unable to pursue education under a democratic system.
In the meantime, education sector is being commercialized at an unprecedented rate.
Rapid privatization of education sector is rather alarming and this trend has literally forced poor students to look to Government schools which have no worthy infrastructure, Surjit said.
The ever-widening gap between private schools and Government schools has resulted in serious disparities among the people.
The AISSY 2014 campaign is based on a broad theme of ensuring proper education to all the people of India.
AIFRTE steering committee president Anil Sad Gopal who was also present at the press meet said that the campaign has already been launched on November 2 and it would continue till December 4 .
The campaign would be taken up at regional level, State level and district level.
The campaign is being organised in honour of Irom Sharmila with the twin objective of ensuring all democratic rights and education for all irrespective of caste, creed, religion, language, race etc.
