Lamdan to be made hotspot for mountaineers & tourists: CM

The government would make efforts to make Lamdan under Henglep sub-division in Churachandpur, a hotspot for mountaineering and tourism by seeking funds from the Ministry, asserted Chief Minister O Ibobi while inaugurating Information & Tourist Hall at Adventure Tourism Complex at Lamdan today.
Speaking as the chief guest of the inauguration function organized by Manipur Mountaineering & Trekking Association, Ibobi exuded confidence that Lamdan is a potential place for mountaineering and tourism given that the area is blessed with natural scenic beauty.
The CM maintained that Manipur Mountaineering & Trekking Association have already expressed its desire to the government for setting up of a Regional Mountaineering Institute at Lamdan for which the government has taken note of it.

A world class university could also be set up at Lamdan considering its strategic location, he added.
Saying that the government would also try to improve the condition of Ningthoukhong-Lamdan road to facilitate tourism in the area, Ibobi announced that necessary efforts would be put in to connect the water pipe line coming from Laimaton with Lamdan to meet the shortage of potable water faced by residents of the area.
Referring to the reports that mountaineering sports would be added as an event in Olympic Game, the CM asserted that once the event is included in the Olympics, many mountaineering players from the State who could fetch gold medal in the event would come out.
Manga Vaiphei, Chairman of Manipur Tribal Development Corporation who attended the function as president said that there is a plan to construct a bridge that will connect Henglep Headquarters with Lamdan to facilitate transportation of people.
Conceding that Manipur Mountaineering & Trekking Association is shouldering a big responsibility to construct a place for mountaineering at Lamdan, he confided that members of the association are taking up measures to explore natural scenic places in different parts of the State which is commendable.
Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam; Agriculture Minister Abdul Nasir and Parliamentary Secretary (Tourism & YAS) M.Prithviraj were also present at the occasion.
The Information & Tourist Hall which was inaugurated today was constructed under the funding from Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.
