Imphal, November 03 2014:
At a time when due disqualification proceedings have been initiated by the Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker's Tribunal against five MSCP MLAs and another five MLAs of All India Trinamool Congress, a new petition has been filed at the tribunal seeking disqualification of Langthabal A/C MLA Karam Shyam.
The five MSCP MLAs against whom disqualification proceedings have been initiated are Karam Thamarjit (Keirao A/C), RK Imo (Sagolband A/C), Paonam Brojen (Wangjing-Tentha A/C), Nemcha Kipgen (Kangpokpi A/C) and Janghemlun Panmei (Tamenglong A/C) .
The five AITC MLAs who are facing a similar tricky situation are Thongam Bishwajit (Thongju A/C), Thounaojam Shyamkumar (Andro A/C), Kh Joykisan (Thangmeiband A/C), K Sarat (Konthoujam A/C) and Oinam Lukhoi (Wangoi A/C) .

Karam Shyam is the only MLA elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly on Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) ticket.
Three persons jointly filed a petition to the Speaker's tribunal seeking disqualification of K Shyam under 10th Schedule of the Indian Constitution and Assembly (Disqualification Grounds of Defection) Rule 1986 .
The petitioners are BJP Manipur Pradesh members K Saratchand, N Momon and LJP member Kh Vimal.
According to their petition, LJP supported Congress-led UPA when it was in power at the Centre.
Then LJP leaders Ram Vilas Paswan switched sides and became a partner of BJP-led NDA since March 3 this year.
After the Narendra Modi led NDA Government was sworn in on May 20 this year, Ram Vilas Paswan was inducted as the Union Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister.
Even as LJP's political orientation had taken a u-turn at the National level, K Shyam still remains the party's National general secretary and he was also one of the star campaigners in the party's election campaigns outside the State.
Whereas LJP has become a partner of NDA at the Centre, Karam Shyam still sits on the ruling bench in Manipur Legislative Assembly implying his support to the incumbent Congress Government.
Moreover, he campaigned for Congress candidate Dr T Meinya in the last Lok Sabha election, charged the petition.
The petition while maintaining that resignation (from the ruling bench) is not enough, demanded initiation of disqualification process against Karam Shyam.
