A 10-day workshop on Meetei Mayek proficiency for teachers of Manipuri (MIL) and Elective Manipuri for classes XI and XII organised jointly by MEELAL, Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur and All Manipur Recognised Private Schools' Welfare Association started today at the Council of Higher Secondary Education office, Babupara.
COHSEM Chairman C Athar and secretary Sarangajit Khundrakpam attended the inaugural programme of the 10-day workshop as chief guest and president respectively.
Professor P Gunindro, Manipur University, Assistant Professor Dr W Romesh Singh, GP Women's College and MEELAL vice president M Naokhamba Meetei were the resource persons in today's function.
Speaking at the occasion, chief guest C Athar said resource persons and other Meetei Mayek instructors/teachers should elaborate on the appropriate and effective ways of teaching Meetei Mayek to instruct standard XI and XII students during the workshop.
Starting 2015, Meetei Mayek would be included as an optional paper in the matriculation examination.
The fresh batch of XI students, in 2015, would therefore require teachers who can teach Meetei Mayek, Athar added.
Council secretary Sarangajit Khundrakpam said the popularity of Meetei Mayek has been growing rapidly among young students.
As such, MIL teachers would hereafter be required to be well versed and proficient in the script.
