Workshop on Meitei Mayek for teachers under COHSEM begins

A three-phase workshop on Meitei Mayek for teachers under Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) being organized by COHSEM commenced today at the hall of the council at Babupara, Imphal West.
C Arthur W, Chairman of COHSEM and Sarangajit Khundrakpam, Secretary of COHSEM graced the inaugural function as chief guest and president respectively.
Addressing the gathering, Babudhon Sapamcha, Joint Secretary Academy of Council stated that the Meitei Mayek evolution in the State is divided into syllabuses namely MIL and Elective Manipuri which covers both government and non-government colleges while asserting that it has become utmost necessary for teachers under the council especially Class XI and XII teachers to be well verse with Meitei Mayek script.

He maintained that the Manipuri syllabus which is written in Bengali script presently taught will be replaced by Meitei Mayek script from 2015 session onwards and stressed the need for giving more intensive training on the script to teachers before the commencement of the session.
Saying that the workshop is being organized with an aim to enable teachers read and write Meitei Mayek script fluently before they start teaching students, he added that a total of 197 teachers were called for taking part in the workshop which is going to be held in three phases with 70 teachers in each phase.
The first phase of the workshop would be ended on November 12 to be followed by second phase from November 13 up to 22 while the third phase would be started from November 24 up to December 3, he informed.
He went on to say that the workshop is being supported by All Manipur Recognized Private Schools' Association and Meetei Eyek Erol Loina Sinlon Apunba Lup (MEELAL) .
