Imphal, November 03 2014:
Manipur assembly Speaker has been petitioned by three functionaries of two national political parties to disqualify Karam Shyam of Manipur LJP from MLAship under the 10th Schedule of the Constitution for supporting Congress which is not an alliance of LJP that had alienated from the UPA at the Centre in March this year.
The petition was filed against Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam by K Sharatchandra Sharma, N Momon Meitei, both state BJP functionaries and Kh Vimol Singh of Manipur unit of Lok Janshakti Party before Speaker Th Lokeshore on October 12, sources in LJP and BJP confirmed on Monday.
MLA Shyam who is also a National Secretary of LJP was a star campaigner for the party during the recent Mizoram assembly election.
LJP broke up alliance with the UPA in March this year and later joined the BJP-led NDA.
In the petition, the trio argued that working with the state Congress by Shyam clearly proves that he has defected from the LJP unit and hence he is deserved to be disqualified under the 10th Schedule.
