Imphal, November 10 2016:
The United Naga Council (UNC) and other Naga frontal organisations, including the All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) and Naga Women Union (NWU) have decided to intensify the on-going indefinite economic blockade and the ban on all National projects in Naga territories against the move of the State Government to upgrade Sadar Hills and Jiribam sub-division to the status of full fledged districts.
In a statement issued to the press today, UNC said that the meeting seriously viewed and condemned the autocratic policy of the State Government.
The UNC said that the move of the State Government came despite the 4 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Naga people and the State Government (GoM) on December 14, 1981, between GoM and ANSAM on November 10, 1992, between GoM and Naga Students' Federation (NSF) on September 27, 1996 and between GoM and UNC and ANSAM in 1998 .
The MoUs agreed that not an inch of Naga ancestral land will be touched while creating any new district, said UNC and added that a written assurance to this effect was also received from Union Home Ministry on November 24, 2011 .
The blockade and the ban on National projects will continue till a written assurance is received from the Government of India that the ancestral land of the Nagas will not be touched while creating any new district, added UNC.
