Aided school employees warn of shunning poll duty

Aided school employees have threatened to shun election duty in case their due rate of pay (ROP) 2010 is not paid by November 15 .
The All Manipur Government Aided School Employees Coordinating Committee has adopted a decision to this effect.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, the committee's acting president L Sunder said that there are 604 aided schools in Manipur and they have 1749 sanctioned posts.
These posts were sanctioned by the State Government in 1980 (non-plan) and 1986-87 (plan).
The aided school employees are being given the ROP prescribed by the 5th Pay Commission, Sunder said.
Although the sanctioned posts is just 1749, there are around 5000 employees in all the aided schools of the State.
Salaries given to the 1749 approved employees are shared with the other employees.
The aided school employees have been silently enduring all the difficulties with the hope that the Government would one day pay them ROP 2010 .
Nonetheless, aided school employees staged different forms of democratic protest demonstration earlier demanding payment of ROP 2010 .
Subsequently, the Education Minister once stated on the floor of the State Assembly that aided school employees would be given 6th pay once the 14th Finance Commission came into force but the same declaration has come to nought so far.
While demanding that they should be given ROP 2010 by November 15, Sunder nonetheless hailed the State Government for adopting some aided schools as full fledged Government schools.
He then appealed to the Government to adopt all aided schools as full fledged Government schools so that right to education is assured to all children.
