Economics of Yonghcak deliberated at length

The two day State level workshop cum exhibition of treebean (Yongchak) organised by Association for Protection and Promotion of Treebean (APPOT) concluded today.
On the last day, two technical sessions and a brainstorming session were conducted followed by a valedictory function.
The first technical session entitled "Economics of Treebean & Agri-horticultural Management for Treebean Decline" was chaired by Dr M Srinivasa Rao, General Manager of NABARD, Imphal.
Dr RK Dilip, CAU, Imphal presented a paper on "Conservation and Utilization of Elite Plants and Scope of Canopy Management in Treebean" while Dr Chinglen Meisnam, Associate Professor of Department of Economics, Manipur University spoke on "Economics of Treebean in Present Scenario: State and Regional Perspectives" .

In the second technical session titled - "Therapeutics and Nutraceuticals of Treebean", Dr.Pradeep Bhardwaj, Scientist - E, IBSD, presented a paper on "Medicinal and Nutritional Aspects of Parkia" .
The second resource person was Dr Priya Elangbam of DM University.
She presented a paper on "Processing Effects on the Nutrients & Anti-nutrients of Parkia Timoriana".
The session was chaired by Dr Thounaojam Ritamadhuri, MO, Integrated AYUSH Hospital, Lamphelpat, Manipur.
The technical session was followed by a brainstorming session which was chaired by Dr RK Nimai (retired IAS officer), chairman of SAIRAM.
Dr Homen Thangjam, IGNTU-RCM was the co-chairperson while Dr RK Roshan, ICAR KVK Tamenglong was the rapporteur.
The valedictory function, on the other hand, was graced by Prof N Lokendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, Dr M Srinivasa Rao and Dr RK Nimai and Prof N Rajmuhon Singh, Vice Chancellor of DM University as presidium members.
At the function, Dr M Srinivasa Rao expressed that NABARD is a development agency which focuses on uplifting the rural areas.
Dr RK Nimai said that one should not depend only on the State Government to develop the agriculture sector.
Prof N Lokendra Singh stressed on the need to use modern technology in treebean cultivation.
In a presidential address, Prof Rajmohan remarked that Manipur's share in the biodiversity hotspot of India is enormous.
He remarked that preserving a treebean which has a commercial potential requires a holistic approach.
During the valedictory function, prizes were distributed to the winners of the Yongchak competition which was participated by 40 stalls.
The first prize went to Th Gonmei, Sibilong from Tamenglong while Thangnei Kom, from Kangpokpi and Khainibou from Tamenglong bagged the second and third prizes respectively.
Cash awards of Rs 20,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 were awarded to the three winners.
In addition, Consolation prize which carried Rs 3,000 was awarded to four other participants.
