Kangpokpi, March 16 2022:
Villagers of Kangchup Makhom in Kangpokpi district have been witnessing a fire from subsurface near the vicinity of the village since March 13 .
According to the villagers, the flame was first spotted at Thang-minlal Neishiel's field on March 13 and it is still burning.
The fire is presumably a biomass ignition and the villagers are very apprehensive that it could pose a danger to livestock, standing crops and inhabitants of the surrounding areas.
In this connection, chief of Kang-chup Makhom, Jangkhokam Lotzem has submitted a letter to the SDO Kangchup Geljang drawing attention of the government and authorities concerned for immediate intervention.
The chief urged the state government and the departments concerned to let the Geological Survey of India to survey the area and provide accurate information on the possible reason of the blazing fire to the village authority.
He also urged for directing the fire brigade to cordon off the affected area to prevent further spread of the fire and assess the damages caused by the fire, and accordingly provide compensation to the affected landowners.
Meanwhile, SDO Kangchup Geljang said that necessary action would be initiated after a spot inspection on Thursday.
