Bhagyachandra Solo Dance Fest concludes

The five-day long Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Solo Dance Festival concluded on Wednesday at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) Auditorium.
The closing function was attended by JNMDA former director L Joychandra Singh, Padmashree Dr E Indira Devi, Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee A Lakshmi Devi, Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee L Lakpati Singh and JNMDA vice-chairman prof H Tombi Singh as the chief guest, guests of honour and president respectively.
The closing day witnessed presentation of seven Manipuri Solo dances.
Surja Pranam was performed by S Rahul Singh of JNMDA, Khrishna Vandana by Ananta Datta of JNMDA, Das Avatar by E Pomila Chanu of JNMDA, Tanum by NC Leishembi of JNMDA, Vasanta Barnan by M Nongdambi Devi of JNMDA and 'Gopi Amana Shrimati Radha Da Pao Tamjaba' by A Chanchan Devi of Meitei Traditional Dance Teaching School and Performing Centre, Lalambung.
The festival was organised by Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy Imphal, a constituent unit of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi as a part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav in celebration of India's 75 years of India's Independence.
Altogether, 37 artistes including seven from the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy and 30 from other institutions took part in the festival, organised to encourage and showcase the talents of upcoming artistes and provide them the opportunity to display their individual talents.
Speaking on the occasion, L Joychandra observed the fading popularity of solo dance festivals and the influence of both Manipuri and non-Manipuri artistes on Manipuri Dance.
As such, it is time for the Dance Academy, Art and Culture Department and Manipur State Kala Akademi to delve further into the rich art and cultural traditions of the state so as to assist in its preservation, he asserted.
Regarding the festival, JNMDA director P Bilash said that it is the responsibility of the present generation to preserve the art and cultural legacy left behind by our forefathers.
As such, Manipur dance, Thang-Ta, Nat Sankirtana and other art forms, particularly performing art forms, are being included as educational disciplines in schools, colleges and university, thereby helping to elevate its importance and status, while further promoting Manipur across India and aboard.
