First round of National Deworming Day kicks off

The first round of National Deworming Day, 2022 was officially launched today at the Auditorium Hall of Directorate of Family Welfare, Thangal Bazar, Imphal.
The launching programme was graced by Education (S) Director L Nandakumar, National Health Mission State Mission Director Dr N Shyamjai, Social Welfare Director Ng Uttam and Family Welfare Additional Director Dr Dihe Mao as the presidium members.
Notably, the National Deworming Day which was supposed to be held on February 10 had been deferred in view of COVID-19 and election.
Delivering the keynote address, State Health Society, NHM, Manipur SNO (Child Health) Dr A Sylvia conveyed that more than 8 lakh children in the age group of 1-19 years in the State are being targeted for deworming till April 8 under the National Deworming programme.

She urged the parents, Anganwadi workers, school authorities and all concerned to ensure that their eligible children are dewormed for their good health and overall improvement in their life.
Director Nandakumar in his speech underscored the importance of cooperation between the Family Welfare and Education Department in making the deworming campaign successful.
While asserting that 80 percent of the youth population in India has worms, he called for concerted effort for effective implementation of the National Deworming programme in the State for ensuring a healthy nation.
Delivering the presidential speech, Dr Shyamjai urged the media fraternity to give adequate information about deworming to the general public while stressing on the role of media in generating awareness to the masses.
Pointing out that many common people and parents consider deworming as necessary only for small children, Director Uttam opined that the National Deworming programme will be quite effective when such misconception has been removed from the society.
He further appealed the teenagers and adults to be proactive in deworming themselves under the National Deworming programme.
