Foundation day of Nupi Samaj held

All Manipur Womens' Social Reformation and Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj) observed the 42nd foundation day of Meira Paibi today at Mayang Langjing Sorok Mapal community hall.
Dignitaries present at the event include Takhellambam Tompok Meetei, Pradhan, Mayang Langjing GP; Th Ramani, president, All Manipur Womens' Social Reformation and Development Samaj; Lourembam Nganbi Leima, president, AMKIL; Yambem Momon, president, Tammi Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup; YK Dhiren, vice-president, United Committee Manipur; Nongthombam Rupa Chandra, vice-president, United Peoples' Front, Manipur and Chongtham Keinahanbi, president, Mayang Langjing Semgat Sagat Nupi Lup as the presidium members.
Addressing the gathering, Th Ramani shared that around 40/50 years ago the Manipuri society was deeply impacted by the widespread abuse of narcotic substances.
On the other hand, numerous men were arrested and tortured on false allegations under the draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), 1958, she said.
It was during this time that mothers of the State with torches began observing overnight watches in their respective localities to safeguard the people, Th Ramani maintained.
She added that for many decades Meira Paibis have fought against the widespread use of narcotic substances and alcohol.
Stating that mothers of the State would never accept the lifting of alcohol prohibition, she also urged the relevant authority to revoke the legalisation of alcohol.
