Imphal, December 29 2022:
A team of Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) led by its general secretary Tekcham Rojit carried out inspection of the cleanliness level in and around Imphal area on Thursday.
Speaking to newspersons in this regard, Tekcham Rojit informed that the team found garbage being piled up on sides of the roads at Khwairamband Keithel, along the river banks and heaps of garbage dumped into the river.
This will not only affect the health of all living beings in the areas by allowing spreading of different diseases but also hinder the natural flow of the river.
As per the Manipur Plastic Policy 2022 of Forest, Environment & Climate Change Department, all "Single Use Plastics" are prohibited.
MSF had seized numerous "Banned Items" with the knowledge of the officer-in-charge (Plastic) of Manipur Pollution Control Board.
However, many of the banned items continue to be sold by wholesalers and retail shop owners in board daylight, he conveyed.
Rojit then said that the importance of cleanliness must not be remembered only at times of big festivals or when central leaders visit the state.
Instead, cleanliness must be always maintained, he asserted, while urging the government authority concerned to look into the matter and take up requisite action at the earliest, including seizure of the banned plastic items from the market and surrounding areas.
