Imphal, December 29 2022:
While wishing the people a happy and prosperous New Year, Imphal West superintendent of police (SP) Ksh Shivakanta Singh has appealed all concerned against creating nuisance and unwarranted disturbances to others in the name of year-end and New Year celebrations along with cautioning that police will take appropriate action in case revellers are found carrying firearms at picnic spots.
While acknowledging the popularity of picnic spots along the river banks in Sekmai area, the SP said that a public meeting attended by Sekmai police station officer-in-charge (OC) Kh Sunilkumar Singh, leaders of all villages and local club leaders of the area and its surrounding villages was held on Wednesday at Sekmai Police Station to chalk out ways to minimise unwanted incidents at these picnic spots during the New Year's celebrations.
Anticipating heavy rush of picnickers on December 31 and January 1, 2023 as had been the norm every year along the river banks in Sekmai, Shivakanta appealed to everyone visiting the spots to maintain discipline, cleanliness and warned those found creating avoidable problems.

He said licensed firearms will be returned to the rightful owners only after proper verification.
"People should also be mindful if they are accompanied by children," the SP advised and appealed against taking the risk to swimming or playing in the river.
"We need to be alert, as there have been unwanted drowning incidents in the river in the past couple of years during the festive season," he said, adding that police will also identify restricted zones where the river runs deep and further urged all to respect these signs.
Shivakanta also warned against creating disturbances in the neighbouring villages to avoid unwanted incidents and urged the picnickers to bring their own waste bags and dispose their waste at IMC designated waste collection centres.
