Remand for alleged fraud

Imphal, December 29 2022:
Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West today remanded Kiranjit Wangkheirakpam, Assistant Manager of Axis Bank Kwakeithel branch to judicial custody till January 12 next year in a fraud case.
Kiranjit Wangkhei-rakpam hails from Nong- meibung Academy road.
He was arrested for his alleged involvement in a large-scale fraud and manipulation of the portal of the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Program.
The 32-year-old accused was produced before the Court by a team of Imphal West police along with a prayer for judicial custody after the completion of police custody period.
On the other hand, the defense counsel of the accused filed a remand objection along with an application for releasing him on bail.
Notably, another co-accused, Hom Bahadur Basnet (32), Manager of the bank, hailing from Nungphou Nepali Village, Kangpokpi is in judicial custody.
It is being alleged that they are involved in a large scale fraud case in respect of the subsidy amount of the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Program (PMEGP).
The Investigating Officer of the case submitted that the accused persons in violation of banking guidelines and protocols proceeded to upload certain beneficiaries in the portal so that Government subsidy amounting to over Rs 1,862 lakh can be obtained fraudulently in the account of 269 beneficiaries.
On perusal of the submissions, the Court rejected the bail application and remanded accused Kiranjit Wangkheirakpam to judicial custody till January 12 next year.
