2 poachers held

Imphal, December 17 2014:
Two poachers have been appre-hended during anti-poaching raids carried out by Imphal West District Police and Bishnupur District Police at different places today.
The anti-poaching raids were carried out in and around Loktak fake starting from 3 am under specific instructions of the concerned SPs.
Apart from checking all people who came ashore from Loktak lake, police teams used boats and checked if any one was poaching wild birds particularly migratory birds in the lake.
In a raid led by Mayang Imphal P/S SDPO M Rameshwar, two poachers were apprehended together with trapped wild birds and nets from Mayang Imphal Charoibung area.
The apprehended poachers have been identified as Leitanthem Ibungo (50) of Mayang Imphal Ani Longbi Wangkhei Leikai and Khaidem Gunador (60) belonging to the same locality.
Two live chingkhu birds and two dead hongai birds were recovered from their possession, informed a senior police officer.
On the other hand, signs of attempting to catch wild birds using toxic substances were observed in the course of the raid conducted by Bishnupur District Police even though no poachers could be apprehended.
