Imphal, December 17 2014:
In a blow to All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Manipur Pradesh; Dr Y Radheshyam who contested in the last Hiyanglam by-election as the AITC candidate has resigned from primary membership of the party citing bleak chance of reunion between the two factions.
Announcing the call in a press meet at Mantripukhri today, Dr Radheshyam said that faith of the people in the party has degraded following split of its leaders over some differences, while confiding that repeated requests were made to the party leaders for reunion but efforts put in to do the same proved futile.
As there is no sign of reunion of the split party leaders, people of Hiyanglam Constituency have started losing faith in the party.
This is the main reason for quitting the party, he made it clear.
Elaborating that his resignation letter was submitted to president of the party, Th Shyamkumar in line with the wishes of people of the constituency, he reiterated that national spokesperson of AITC, Derek O' Brien during his visit to the State in connection with the last Hiyanglam by-election had made a fervent appeal to leaders of the party to sort out differences and strengthen the party but nothing sort of such step was taken up.
The filing of two nomination papers from the same party in the Hiyanglam by-election had created confusion amongst denizens of the constituency.
This has led people of the constituency to lose faith in the party and subsequent defeat of the party in the crucial election, he exclaimed.
When asked which political party he will join following his resignation from AITC, Dr Radheshyam replied that the decision to which political party he would join will be taken according to wishes of people of Hiyanglam Constituency.
It is worth mentioning here that Derek O' Brien during his stay in the capital had announced probable party's candidates including Dr Radheshyam for contesting in the next Manipur Legislative Assembly Election scheduled to be held in 2017.However, Dr Radheshyam had retorted that his consent was not sought for announcement of the party's proposed candidates.
