Wildlife products seized

Imphal, December 17 2014:
Based on specific intelligence regarding smuggling of banned wildlife products on NH-102, troops of the 20 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector AR under the aegis of Hqs IGAR (South) esta-blished a vehicle check post at Bongyang and apprehended two individuals along with banned wildlife products worth Rs 62.50 lakh on December 15 .
The suspicious vehicle, a white coloured Mahindra pick-up van (MN 04A 4321) travelling from Imphal to Moreh was stopped for checking, and on a thorough search of the vehicle led to recovery of around 250 kgs of peacock feathers worth Rs 62,50,000 .
The apprehendees have been identified as Inao Singh s/o Pishak Singh of Sagolband in Imphal West district and Subash Chander s/o Ibocha of Wangbal in Thoubal district.
The apprehendees along with the recovered items have been handed over to the Forest Department, Imphal.
