Imphal, December 17 2014:
Situated just around 62 kilometres away from the State capital, many villagers under Henglep subdivision of Churachandpur district are yet to get items under the Public Distribution System (PDS) .
With serious infrastructure deficit, the subdivision could definitely qualify as the most backward one in the State, according to the villagers.
D Henkhomang, chief of Mongken village pointed out that there is no drinking water supply facility in his village not to speak about non-electrification of the village thus leaving the village at the bottom of development index.
No PDS items have been delivered to the villagers so far prompting the villagers to question where the items meant for them have gone or who have siphoned off the items.
The neighbouring village, Munpi shared the same predicaments.
Khamlen Kipgen, chief of Munpi told The Sangai Express that there was no dispensary in the village.
The nearest health centre, Ukha Loikhai PHSC is without doctors and nurses.
This, coupled with poor road connectivity, has rendered untold hardships to the people in the event of medical emergency.
Left with no other options, patients have to be taken to Ccpur headquarters for treatment by engaging five/six persons to carry the patient in a makeshift stretcher along the mountainous terrains, the chief said.
He also said that there have been instances of patients passing away on the way to the hospital.
The authority concerned has been continuing to turn a blind eye to the suffering of the people, the chief rued.
Khamlen Kipgen also narrated that altogether ten children lost their lives in a month due to the outbreak of a kind of malaria in October 2006.Besides, many pregnant women died due to total absence of health care facility and proper road communication system in the area.
To add to the woes of the people, Mongken JB School has been remaining closed for about one year due to absence of teacher.
No replacement has been sent to the school since around 6/7 teachers of the school either retired or got transferred.
The authority concerned has been showing indifferent attitude to the suffering of the villagers for this long, a villager rued.
The villagers also drawn the attention of the local MLA towards their woeful plights.
