Imphal, December 17 2014:
Contractors selected for transshipping FCI rice along Imphal-Jiribam highway have been allegedly transshipping rice along Imphal-Dimapur highway but FCI officials have been speaking not a single word.
According to a functionary of the Manipur Truck Owners' Welfare Association, transportation of rice along Imphal-Jiribam highway was stopped by a faulty policy of FCI.
On account of the same faulty policy, many heavy vehicles plying along Imphal-Jiribam highway have been left without any business, said the source while seeking immediate intervention of the Chief Minister so that trucks can transport rice along the highway as usual.
FCI Regional Office, Guwahati invited tender bids for transportation of rice from Jagiroad, Assam to Sangaiprou via Silchar and Jiribam.
The Truck Owners' Welfare Association too applied for the tender but it lost the bid.
However, the successful transport contractor has been transshipping rice along Imphal-Dimapur highway rather than the specified Imphal-Jiribam highway but the FCI officials have been acting as mute spectators without saying anything.
Seeking immediate intervention of the Chief Minister against the unethical practice which is being carried out transport contractors in connivance with FCI officials, the source appealed to the Chief Minister to make necessary arrangement for shipping in rice from the nearest depot.
Trucks used in transshipping rice along Imphal-Dimapur highway are registered outside the State.
As such, substantial amount which the trucks should accrue to the State exchequer has been lost, the source added.
