Chandel, December 17 2014:
Fumed over the non-repair of suspension bridges on Iril river in Keirao Assembly Constituency, the Keirao Kendra Minority Development Organization has set a deadline for repair of six suspension bridges within a week.
The Organisation threatened the authority that it will block the Imphal East inter-Village roads apart from obstructing crossing of the bridges, if the department concerned fails to repair.
While speaking to media persons at a meeting held today at Manipur Press Club, the President of the Organization said, "the six suspension bridges under Keirao Kendra which were built between 1972 and 1995 serve as an important connectivity for people between the eastern and the western sides of Iril river.
As a result of wear and tear over the years, the wooden bars including the clamps have been dismantled and the Organisation has been providing maintenance over the years.
Though the Department was informed of this situation repeatedly, no action has been taken till now, added the president.
