Teachers absenteeism prevalent in Chandel, says KSO

Most of the teachers in Chandel district were found absent from their place of posting and most of them failed to attend schools during the current academic session, Kuki Students' Organization (KSO) Chandel district said today.
Addressing media persons after a joint meeting of village chiefs, Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) Chandel district and 7 blocks of KSO which was held at H Kotlenphai village, Doumang Haokip, president of KSO Chandel district said that absenteeism of teachers in the district came to light after several rounds of surprise visits conducted by the KSO blocks during the past few months.
Most of the teachers in Chandel district were found absent and not dispensing their duties at their respective place of posting, he said.
The student body would take up stringent action against any teachers who are not dispensing duties from the next academic session, warned the KSO president.
While appealing the authority concerned to inspect schools located in the district regularly to ensure smooth functioning, the KSO leader also appealed to the Government to introduce biometrics attendance system at every school from next academic session.
He also urged the authority concerned to distribute school uniforms and text books as well as release all the funds for school maintenance to the accounts of School Managing Committee before the commencement of the school session.
Moreover, the KSO president urged the authority concerned to deliver rice of Mid Day Meal at every school to ensure that the rice were not misappropriated and the students enjoy their meal during school hours.
Lunminlal Haokip, Secretary, Health and Environment, KSO Chandel who also attended the press meet said that the assurance given by the local MLA and CMO Chandel to install ultra sound machine at Tengnoupal Primary Health Centre has not been materialised till date.
The Ambulance given to the health centre has been lying unattended as it is found to be unserviceable even in the event of any emergency, due to mechanical defect and absent of the ambulance driver, he added.
The student leader, therefore, appealed to the local MLA and CMO to install the ultra sound machine at the PHC at the earliest and provide an ambulance in a running condition.
