Imphal, May 06 2014:
Alleging duty dereliction and service incompetency by personnel of Government health centre in Tousem sub-division of Tamenglong district, Zeme Naga Council, Manipur urged authority concerned to extend all possible assistance to Bangalore-based NGO Karuna Trust in catering to the medical needs of the sub-divisional people.
A Council statement issued by its president GH Newmeh, describing Karuna Trust one of the most effective medical service providers in Tousem area, said cooperation by the Government to the NGO is inevitable to ensure that the Trust sustains its health care endeavours to people settled in the remote sub-division.
Inspite of repeated intimations to the Government, medical personnel, including doctors and nurses posted to Primary Health Sub-Centres in the sub-division, seem to more seriously focused on getting out of the sub-division at the earliest possible rather than provide medical solace to the needy people, maintained the Council president adding that the medical personnel seeking transfer within days of being posted in the sub-divisional health centres has become the norm rather than an exception.
With Tousem reeling under intense heat wave and many people suffering from various diseases, absence of medical staff members in Government health centres has been aggravating the situation, informed the Council while pointing out that taking into account regular medical service provided by personnel of Karuna Trust the Government too need to contribute towards strengthening the NGOs' network and facilitate continuous and effective service by the same.
The humble proposal for supporting the NGO has been compelled by repeated failure of the Government to take care of health issues of the people, added the president.
