NH-37 Chaka bandh begins

Tamenglong, May 06 2014:
Denouncing the alleged failure of the State government to respond to the ultimatum served to the Chief Minister, Joint Forum for Transport Welfare, Tamenglong on Monday decided to go ahead with the proposed indefinite chakka bandh along NH 37 in Tamenglong district with effect from midnight today.
Functioning of the PWD office in Tamenglong including that of the NF railway construction company would come under the purview of the Chakka bandh.
The Forum has been demanding the state government to stop further attempt to take over the construction work on Tamenglong- Khongsang road, which is about 39.5 km from NH- 37 and not to "give written consent/ clearance letter to Mort & H, GoI, BRO, etc for immediate commencement of work" .
Payment of compensation to the land affected owners for the construction/ widening of road to double lane standard as per government notification, survey/ verification, assessment of bill by the concerned department and aproval of the by the concerned Ministry for releasing of bill payment and allowing construction of Tamenglong- Khongsang road not by any other agencies other than BRTF (GREF) were among other demands of the Forum.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao in this regard today afternoon, DM.
Joseph, Secretary of Joint Forum for Transport Welfare, Tamenglong pointed out that the Forum along with Village Chiefs, Students' Unions, Frontal Organisations, Women Organisations, Village Authority Chairman Council, Chairmen Association Tamenglong district and Land ownership Action Committee NH-37 on behalf of the general public had submitted an ultimatum to the Government.
However, no response has been given so far, thus compelling the Forum to go ahead with its decision of imposing an indefinite Chakka bandh along Tamenglong-Khongsang road.
Functioning of the PWD office at Tamenglong including that of the office NF railway construction company would also come under the purview of the Chakka andh, Joseph added.
