Imphal, May 06 2014:
Even though there is no improvement in the erratic power supply in the State, the State Power Corporation has hiked the power tariff by 17 percent with effect from April 1 last month.
The power tariff in the State was hiked in accordance to the the new rates approved by the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission of Mizoram and Manipur.
However, the State Power Corporation did not notify the new power tariff to the public in time.
The consumers learned about the hike only at the time of payment of their due bills.
According to the new tariff, the rate of one unit of power for domestic consumers has been increased to Rs.2.80 from Rs.2.40 .
The tariff for commercial connections has also been increased in the similar pattern.
Reacting to the hike in power tariff, many disgruntled consumers said that the new State Power Corporation or the erstwhile Electricity Department never bother to improve the erratic power supply in the State.
Barring the VIPs, the people of the State do not get more than three hours of electricity in a day.
The hike in power tariff at this juncture could not have any justification rather inviting harsh criticisms from the public, they added.
